Japan I will start off with a brief History of Japan. Japan was inhabited by humans over 10,000 years ago the exact date is unknown, the earliest culture that has been identified by anthropologists is from about 8,000 BC called the Jomon culture. It was a hunting and gathering culture and made a very distinctive pottery. Skipping a few periods in Japans history we come to the formation of the private armies and a class of warriors called Samuri this was about 1100 AD. In about another 80 years comes the Shoguns. The first Europeans began visiting Japan in about 1543. They saw a country that was involved in a civil war which its beginning was marked by the "Onin War" a hundred years earlier. This century of war was called "Epoch of the Warring Country". Trading with the Europeans continued throughout the rest of the 1500's up until after 1639 when Japans policy turned to almost complete isolation. Only the Chinese and Dutch were allowed to continue their trading and establish trading quarters in Nagasaki. After 200 years, about 1867 the Shogun fell from power and the Young Meiji emperor restored the imperial government and opened trade to all countries.
